Spread the love

Well – I made it! I survived the first day after Christmas break and even got in a bit of exercise!!

I reviewed all of Sam’s work that he needs to complete for his first year of high school and he is progressing well in Algebra and literature of all things! Not so great in Science and History but we’ll keep working on it.

Noah is my little work horse and he got all of his assignments and completed them all too!

Gabe has improved so much in math that I really think I can start letting him work more independently. This second half of the year I want to step up his reading skills. He told me today he would like to go to Hoban High School, which is our local Catholic High School. I told him if he can get a scholarship, he can go. I suddenly saw much more incentive! Let’s see if that carries through.

Izzy got through Math and a little reading. I will start with her tomorrow.

The kids went with me to run in this gorgeous weather! Sam 2.6 miles in 30 minutes. He said he felt nauseous when we were done so he knew he got in a good walk! Noah ran almost 2 miles. Izzy ran 1.3 miles and then felt whipped. I walked 1.3 miles in 30 minutes and felt pretty good. I guess that’s not bad for just starting a walking program. I hope to eventually get in 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. I could have done more distance if the track wasn’t so muddy and some slower walkers kind of got bogged down in front of me. I was going more for time anyway like the You: On A Diet docs suggest.

When we got back, I started to watch some t.v. and there was a really fun looking dance move on FitTV. It was Afro/Latin aerobics with MaDonna Grimes. I couldn’t help myself; the beat just beckoned me to get up and try it. I decided to learn the choreography and do the routine with the t.v. I use to be a dancer. I was even with a professional jazz company for a few years so learning choreography isn’t completely new to me. Of course, this was way before I had kids and Izzy and Noah couldn’t believe that I could dance like that. I don’t know if they were surprised or horrified? I just know it was really a fun routine and great exercise. It probably counted as some more cardio. I just hope I can move my neck tomorrow after swinging my head around so much! It’s already starting to feel a little tight! I did start a fitness blog, but it’s private. I don’t care to have my “ham hocks” brought up in future debates and discussions, particularly in a political year.

Is it too much to hope for another nearly 70 degree day tomorrow? Probably. I hear snow is in the forcast for Wednesday!
