  1. I have several problems with this:
    1) $1000 for a flute for a middle school kid? I don’t know the price range on those things, but I do know that I only spent $400 on a saxephone last year. Are there better ones out there? Probably, but she can learn on this, and if one day she needs a better one, we can talk. Now, I’ll admit I’m no musician, so if my attitude is wrong, feel free to say so
    2) He “had” to hand out all those instruments? Sounds like a captive audience. Aren’t there other stores in town? Why can’t parents make their own arrangments for instruments?
3)If this is a low-income school (I’m guessing that because mom has credit problems maybe she is) then they should have instruments for the kids to use.

OTOH, what would your dh have done in this case?

  2. 1. $1000 does sound high for a flute doesn’t it. I thought the same thing.

    2. Mr. Stahl insists on having exclusivity with that particular school district!! Yea there are other stores, but only Central Instrument Company is allowed to come to this particular school on their band recruiting day.

    3. I don’t know if the school has their own horns or not.

I don’t know what Pete would have done but I guarantee that he would NEVER threaten to embarrass a child in front of her peers in the classroom!

  3. Just to let you know, people have been sued for defamation, and won, for online postings like this. There was one case in particular where a man had to pay a company because his son wrote on his blog “That’s why my dad quit, because so-and-so was always doing ___.”

You might want to anon it up a bit, and take your husband’s connection out.

  4. Elena, I wouldn’t work for someone like that either, nor would my husband. What terrible practices to have as a business person and as a member of society!

As for this post being deflamatory, you haven’t called him names, nor have you pointed out confidential information, you simply posted a link to something already in pubic view. You’ve done nothing wrong nor should you be weary of what could happen. You’ve committed no foul.

  5. I modified the post anyway. This gentleman sued us in 1995 and although we prevailed in court, it took us seven years to pay off all of our legal fees. Nonetheless, I think folks need to be aware of this type of practice.
