The new school year

Spread the love

Why is it that starting the new school year is almost as difficult as ending the old school year? It seemed to me that last May was a flurry of activity, nonstop planning, cleaning, preparation and events. This late August is also a flurry of activity, nonstop planning, cleaning, preparation and events – only this time with FEES! Fees for piano lessons, fees for art classes, fees for online courses, fees for soccer and cross country. It’s almost as bad as paying for Christmas!

Needless to say I am in a whirl of getting our school year ready. I have to notify the local school board that after 12 years of homeschooling we intend to do it yet one more year. I got my forms, book lists, and outlines all copied and put neatly into a folder. I get my assessments done next week.

Most of my focus this week will be on finishing the plans for my kids and getting my homeschool blog up to date. I use that as part of my assessment. Dr. Holinga really enjoyed that last year!

One thing I really want to incorporate into my school days is time for exercise for me! The kids get plenty of exercise but while I have done a lot more in the last six months than I did from the time Rosie was born, I want to be more scheduled and regular about it, not so much grabbing an opportunity to exercise if and when it came up! I think if I had it into my schedule I could get 4 or 5 times a week instead of my current two or three. That’s the plan anyway. I don’t know if I ever mentioned here that I was a pretty serious dancer from the ages of 16 to 30, taking class almost daily and performing. After the kids came I became and avid Jazzerciser for 15 years. So I know what it means to be committed to a regular program, I know what it means to exercise hard regularly on a schedule and I miss that. For now, because of time and money constraints it will just be me with my own equipment using videos and DVDs. I’m finding that it takes a lot more determination to commit to that than a regularly scheduled exercise or dance class.

I also have big plans for a template change this weekend. I decided that I really liked how the new blogger works but I can’t use all of those super functions with this old style template. So you can watch for that later this week, probably Saturday or Sunday.

I will have a Works for Me Wednesday Post up- probably later today. It involves one of my newest yard sale finds and I’m really excited about it.
