Spread the love

This school year has been a very scary one for me to plan because I will have a high schooler that I will be responsible for ALL BY MYSELF!!! AAAACCCKKKK!!!

The last time I was this anxious about mothering I was bringing my first baby home from the hospital. Remember that feeling? Joy and dread all rolled into one. That’s how I feel about homeschooling high school.

A couple of things have helped me to settle own a bit. I’ve read anything I could get my hands on about high school credits. Realizing that 150 hours (Carnegie hours) is 1 credit helped. I also read that completing a high school level text also counts as a credit. 20 credits on average, is needed to graduate. Suddenly it all seems doable!!!

I also downloaded this softwear to help with the record keeping. I’ve been playing with it a bit by adding credit for the kid’s soccer practices and cross country. I think this is really going to alleviate a lot of my anxiety. (You get a discount on the reasonable purchase price too if you belong to HSLDA and I’m a member!)

The other part of my homeschooling that has really bothered me is…Rosie. My rambunctious, loud, busy, curious and clingy toddler that I love with all my heart! But she is a big distraction to homeschooling. Much to my surprise and delight she has become quite taken with Sesame Street. She LOVES it. In fact she will settle down long enough to watch the entire show which is just incredible to me because the girl rarely sits through meals! That may not sound like a lot, but the thought that she could maybe be occupied with something by herself that is wholesome, educational, safe and quiet makes me absolutely giddy! With educational programming and rotating everyone through to have a chance ot play with her (including me!) I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Right now I have Sam’s curriculum pretty much nailed down, and our schedule. You can see it in my side bar of my homeschool blog. They are word documents. I hope to finish the other kids’ plans this week.

My main focus in the next two weeks is going to be just as important as lesson planing because it contributes to my mental health:
1. GET CAUGHT UP ON THE LAUNDRY.
2. Get my classroom cleaned up and ready to go.
3. Start following the holiday grand plan for that second biggest homeschool distractor- the holidays!!
4. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
