More questions on comments

Just some more of my thoughts on comments sort of based on a previous post here.

Is a difference of opinion always offensive? Should it be? I tend to think that women are much more easily offended by such things than men, who can argue until they are all blue in the face, and still go out and enjoy a beer together.

Another question that crosses my mind is, are supportive comments always good for you? I once had friends and colleagues support me right into working for the biggest tyrant I have ever worked for! Those same friends later told me they thought I was making a mistake, but they didn’t want to hurt my feelings! Would I have listened to them then? I don’t know. I do know that at this point in my life, I would be much more apt to at least take it under advisement.

What are our responsibilities when someone publically announces something that we feel strongly is wrong, mistaken or possibly sinful? Is holding your tongue, (or sitting on your fingers) always the best course of action? I don’t understand Non-Catholic Christian theology on this type of thing, but in Catholicism, once you know, you’re pretty much obligated to say something, however brief.
