My husband has had terrible problems with onychomycosis ever since I have known him. Sometimes this has caused him pain when he would play soccer with the kids and irritate his big toe, or if someone accidentally stepped on his foot.

Over the last two years or so I too have had a problem with this fungus but was reluctant to take a prescription medication for it because of their toxic side effects and the cost! When you take the prescription like Lamisil, you have to have your liver function tested periodically. It also costs around $300 or more for the treatment.

So lately I have been trying some natural methods of treating this infection and have had some pretty good results. I opted for the vinegar treatment. The idea is to create a hostile environment for the fungus so that they do not infect the new nail as it grows out. It should take about a year for a clear nail, but that is also what Lamisil promises. I am seeing new clear nail growth so far. Pete is soaking his feet in vinegar at night. Since his infection is a little more advanced I suspect it will take us longer to see results.
