Lives of Loveliness, the Loveliness of Spring!

Spread the love

My favorite part of spring is the sense of renewal. Being able to shed the extra layers of clothing, the extra pounds put on during the winter, the extra dirt brought into the house during the fall and winter, and the sense of guilt for projects ignored or put aside during the winter.

I find that spring is a great time to reboot my exercise life, and my prayer life, sometimes both at the same time.

Five easy ways to rejuvenate yourself, literally body and soul!

1. Get your prayer life back on track. Get out of bed a bit earlier to go pray outside while the sun is coming up, or stay outside to pray during the sunset. Include the kids or teens if they are interested.

2. Take your rosary for a walk! Walking is the easiest and cheapest form of exercise available. Lots of people include walking tapes or music on their walks. Why not keep your rosary in your pocket or entwined around your fingers while you put in your walking time. The chant and the walking together become rhythmic and one helps the other. Talk about giving yourself completely to prayer.

3. Read some books to encourage and sustain you! I just restarted Father Lovasik’s Praying the Gospels and continue in his Hidden Power of Kindness book. Both continue to inspire me.

4. Read some diet diet books to encourage and sustain you! I have You: On A Diet: The Owner’s Manual for Waist Management on my bed stand. It’s probably one of the best diet books that I’ve ever read, very simple and straightforward!

5. Try something different! Never tried the Divine Mercy Chaplet? Now might be a good time. Try adding the Angelus to your lunchtime practice. Sign up for Jazzercise, ride a bike, or commit to a certain amount of walking per week.

This is sort of a draft, but for meeting the deadline here it is!
