Ain’t no way to witness folks!

I’ve been thinking of writing a post about some of the nasty stuff I’ve been reading about the Catholic Church on certain “Christian” mom blogs. They write things that aren’t researched and aren’t supported and then when I have attempted to correct them I either can’t get my post published or they admonish me on the first page of their blog without letting me fully respond to their comments.

But, I’ve decided to shelf that post as an opportunity for penance because of this video blogging by Cecily. Anyone who has read my comments here this week should know by now that I am strongly pro-life and I supported the Supreme Court Decision on the partial birth abortion ban.

But long time readers will also know that I am pro-good-logical debate and anti-logical fallacies particularly the hurtful ad hominem attacks.

I disagree with Cecily on just about everything, but we get along well because we don’t degrade into name calling and other hurtful tactics! And because of that we actually have a rapport going!! Imagine that!

I asked Cecily to forward the hurtful e-mail she received from a “Catholic” so that I could respond to it. I don’t know if she will or not. She says it’s a friend of mine! (eegads!!!) and I think she doesn’t want to offend me. I think that’s pretty classy. Maybe that person would just contact me on their own – that would be great.

But I want to point one thing out. When Cecily starts talking about this hurtful e-mail there is pain in her eyes!! Whoever tried to engage her didn’t give her an opportunity to find their case compelling or persuasive. It was hurtful and painful and more harm will come out of it than any good.

The way to get a different point of view across is to remain calm, logical and have your points lined up. A sense of humor is good too! For examples of that, see the Harris guidelines in my side bar.
