Spread the love

As I mentioned in a previous post, I do not have a single drop of Irish Blood running through my veins. Not a single drop. My children though have a rich Irish Heritage. It seems that Mr. Pete’s Father was half Irish and half French. Mr. Pete’s mother was a McGurk! So that explains a lot of Mr. Pete’s blarney! Most of my children don’t even look like they are genetically mine! Calvin looks very Irish with his fair skin, although I think his hirsutism comes from my side of the family! Bonny Sam is light and fair; Noah with his blue eyes, freckled nose and sandy hair is definitely hailing from his Irish roots; and then Isadora, my Celtic beauty. So these kids are my ticket to having a legitimate right to celebrate the great Irish Saint (who wasn’t Irish himself, but I suppose that’s beside the point!)

With that intro, here is how we plan to prepare for St. Patrick’s Day here at My Domestic Church.

Monday: Read about St. Thomas from the book Fifty-Seven Saints .

We will also do a map study of Ireland and it’s relationship to the other story we are reading to the other story we are now which takes place in Scottland!

Tuesday, read Tomie De Paola’s account of St. Patrick and do a picture study of the book.

We will also do the discussion questions suggested from Cay Gibson’s Catholic Mosaic: Living the Liturgical Year with Literature an Illustrated Book Study for Cathoilc Children.

Wednesday we will do some narration and copy work on this lovely Irish paper

Thursday – it’s cookie baking day and decorating a bit for the great feast! (Inspired by Alice at a Cottage Blessing! I had a wee bit of extra money so I splurged on the cookie cutters!

Friday – our big craft day. I got this idea from the St. Nicholas page, but we’re going to make a St. Patrick instead!

So that’s the plan!
