Spread the love

My big thing this year of course was to get more organized, be more successful with my homeschooling and try to keep up with all of the housework. I had to add to that losing some weight.

Homeschooling children, for most of the people I know and the homeschooling blogs that I read, is a consuming undertaking. Planning the curriculum and executing it is very time consuming and takes up all of my thoughts while I am doing it. Essentially I have four children that I am solely responsible for homeschooling. In addition I have a teenager and a toddler, two very strong willed individuals who are trying to pull away and become independent at the same time. I am trying to let my oldest become and adult, but at the same time I understand that legally and morally I still hold responsibility for him. It is so difficult to strike the balance between trusted advisor/parent, and hovering tyrant. I think for the most part I do pretty well, but it’s when he breaks my trust that I just find it so hard to treat him like an adult. He’s not an adult and I guess it’s part of my job, to protect him from himself. So job number one is parenting/homeschooling.

My second job involves making an income for the family. This predominantly includes medical transcription, but also my eBay business and some affiliate stuff. (My affiliates on this little blog did pretty well last year – much better than I expected. This is work that has to be done predominantly on the weekends, evenings and very early mornings.

My third job, the one I have been more reluctant to pick up, is losing this baby weight. If I had never had a baby, I am guessing my weight would be around 140 pounds or so. It was 130 before I got pregnant the first time, but in looking at those pictures, that was too skinny. 140 was perfect. And the first two times, I was able to get back to that weight. But after baby #3, there was less time, less energy, less desire to spend my time working out. With baby #6, with resources at their limit, I even dropped out of my beloved Jazzercise routine. I know what it takes to lose 50 pounds. It takes obsession. Something that I haven’t been willing to have until now and even now I’m not that keen on it. It’s just something I know I have to do.

With that, I have pulled out my “Managers of Their Home” book, dusted it off, and made schedules for everyone including me. I’ll be posting it on my homeschool blog later. It looks daunting but I know once I am into it it won’t be so bad. But I think it helps to have my three full-time jobs laid out with a master plan before me!
