Eve is the Catholic mom blogger at A Catholic in Steinbach blog. She has been bravely and persistently trying to defend the faith over on the Of (Some) Christian women blog, particularly the difficult doctrine of Purgatory.

So Carri from O(S)CW lays down the following challenge:

Now, if you still want to try and convince us that your religion is legitimate, then do it from the Bible. If you cannot or are unwilling to do so, then I suggest our conversation end here

Eve, I hope you read this because I can’t comment on your blog because of the beta blogger/non beta blogger issue.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I understand what you are trying to say. You don’t have to try and convince the Protestant women at Of (Some)Christian Women that the Catholic faith is legitimate. They aren’t in charge of what is and is not legitimate. Further, as a Catholic you have the rich resources of our 2000+ year old church. You do not have to let Carrie set the narrow parameters of sola scriptura on your shoulders. She doesn’t have any right to make your yoke more burdensome.

It is doubtful that anyone who subscribes to the “plain read” practice of a book as complex and anxient as the bible is going to take your exegesis on Purgatory anyway. In that sense, Carrie’s suggestion to end it is a good one. If you need a graphic for a sandle shaking post, let me know and I’ll send one your way.
