Spread the love

Luke and Laura exchange their vows – again! To commemorate their first wedding 25 years ago today!

A couple of thoughts.

First it occurs to me that probably some of my readers weren’t even born 25 years ago! Certainly my children have no clue why Luke and Laura are such a big deal!! I tried to explain it all to Sam today on the way home from piano lessons. About how Laura found out who her real mother was when she was 14, and then she killed her first lover when she was around 16 and had a mental breakdown then (when you think about it, Laura has a staggering body count!!) and how she got married at 17. The hardest part to explain was about The Rape and how that lead to love and marriage. But when I got the ice princess, he laughed out loud!

“Who can believe that stuff mom?”

Well nobody. That’s what makes for good soap opera.

If anyone bothered to do the math, if this is their 25th wedding aniversary, then Lucky and Nicholas are both younger than 25 years old, which is amazing because Lulu is 18 and they supposedly did all the “dad” things with. Now, Lucky was 11 when then came back to Port Charles, so he’s at least 11 years older than his sister. The math just doesn’t work out.

I hate that Laura didn’t get to raise Nicholas. I hate that she also got cheated out of any part of Lulu’s childhood.

I love that Genie Francis didn’t let her weight keep her from coming back. They said she was too fat 25 years ago. My sister said she read somewhere that Genie said she wouldn’t come back until she had lost some weight. But ABC really wanted her back, and she she came back, looks to me like at least 25 pounds heavier than when she left. Good for her! Because fans like me love the character, and we love the actress, and we want to see her!! I don’t really care if she looks realistic for a middle aged mom of three. That’s what she is!

BTW, Genie Francis and her husband live in Maine now and she has a store called the Cherished Home. It looks just like I would picture Laura would decorate a home.

Twenty five years ago today, I was only married two years myself. I was working for an orthopedic surgeon and that day I was all by myself in the office doing the billing. I wanted to be home to watch the show, but my boss never would have understood that. I never saw any of the wedding until a few years ago when I finally caught it on Soap Net. I remember wondering if I would ever have a family and our own home. Looking back now it’s nice to see that I did meet some of my goals.

So at 3:00 today I’ll tape this wedding! (something not available back then). Tonight I will hustle everyone of the room so that they don’t make fun of me while I cry through Luke and Laura’s wedding, and hope for a miracle (or a contract extension) that will save Laura from catatonia again!
