Spread the love

There is a blog I read frequently because the blogger is a darn good writer, she’s funny, and she just had her first baby. For those reasons I try to overlook the fact that she is as far to the left as I am to the right; she is pro-abortion and I am pro-life.

I have to comment on her post today however. She writes about another blogger who had an abortion too.

She writes:

Like me, the prospect of delivering our children was unbearable–because they would have suffered unbearable pain and agony the entirety of their short lives. Mine because I was only 22 weeks pregnant and he was terribly, terribly small (being a twin) and hers because of a horrendous set of medical conditions.

Here is the story of the blogger at Uncommon Misconceptions

My husband and I decided that we would have to use the golden rule. We would do for Thomas what we would want done for us in the same situation.

We tried to look at the evidence as honestly as we could. Even the best case scenario was abominable.. Thomas would lead a very short life of only a few years at the very most. During those years he would be in constant pain from the ceaseless, charley-horse-type cramps that would rack his body. He would undergo numerous, largely ineffective surgeries, just to stay alive. He would never be able to walk or stand; never grasp anything, never be able to hold himself upright. He wouldn’t even be able to suck his own thumb for comfort. And this was only if we were lucky. The more likely scenarios tended toward fetal death and serious health complications for me.

So I became curious and did a quick blog search and came upon this one, this one, and this one.

Doctor’s are not always right. While they may feel it is their duty and obligation to play out the worst case scenario, they can’t possibly assess what a child can or cannot achieve, and shouldn’t these children be given a chance?

I blogged on that here:

My Domestic Church: Beware of Maternal and Fetal Indications – RealChoice

But regardless of how long or difficult a child’s life is, a child deserves to be held and loved, treated with mercy and tenderness until his or her natural end.

“But more than that, this time in the womb, however brief, and regardless of how it ends is the special time that God has given for mother and child. My brief time with Raphael bonded us. He was my child and I will love him forever. I would encourage any mother in the same situation not to run to shorten or end this life because it is painful and uncertain, but to take the opportunity to mother THIS baby, NOW while there is still the chance and to savor this time together.”
