Spread the love

I found this wonderful picture of St. Peter <a href=”http://www.marquette.edu/haggerty/exhibitions/past/brink/ST%20PETER.jpg”>here. </a>

Today is the Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul.   We make a bigger deal out of it because of Mr. Pete and also it is the baptismal name of one of my sons.    When I was trying to think of something to do every year on this special day, the only thing I could come up with was eat fish!   So, we eat fish!!   Tuna for lunch.  I’d like to tell you tht I have something exciting and exotic for dinner – but probably just Mrs. Paul’s!  A few years ago when the feast was on a weekend I made a seafood pizza that was delicious!  Maybe next year.

I love this picture of Peter though because it shows St. Peter at his most human, with all of his doubts and frailties.   It shows his lack of faith.  What makes St. Peter important though is not his failings, but how he overcame them to become a great saint, even to the point of death.   That’s the part I want to emphasize to my children as we remember today.
