From my e-mail today:

E-Bay has developed a policy that you are no longer allowed to sell teacher’s editions of textbooks. This policy makes sense with respect to dishonest students who may get a cheap teacher’s edition and cheat on their homework or tests, but makes things difficult for homeschoolers who would like to find buyers and sellers for these expensive books. If you want to learn more see the links below.

The eBay policy:

There is a link at the bottom of this page for eBay members to send an e-mail directly to eBay about this particular issue.

Here is a group to help families sell their used materials by providing a list of venues and tons of suggestions. The members are very helpful and supportive. We do not endorse any one site over another, we just offer helpful advice and a safe place to discuss your options.

*****PLEASE READ HOMESCHOOLERS:

EBAY has made a new policy that we are no longer allowed to sell Teacher’s Ed, answer keys, tests, etc.. They said school districts have complained and are afraid that students will get the materials & use them in school. They do not recongnize homeschoolers as qualified teachers. THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!!! We must take action. You are allowed to buy & sell sexually explicit material, but not certain homeschool materials. PLEASE,PLEASE write & complain about this new policy which took effect this March. Another seller has spoken to EBAY and they need at least 100 families to overturn this. This is an internal policy so WE can possibly get them to change if we have enough complaints!! Please send this address to your homeschool groups or we may lose a great avenue for homeschoolers. Please take action!

Thanks for your help!!

And now my own personal note, I’m going to delete any comments that say something to the effect that the poor school systems just have to be protected against unscrupulous students. I. don’t. care. Homeschoolers spend a lot of money every year to buy curriculum for their homeschools, (much of it on eBay) and some of that money comes from selling used curriculum from last year. I’d sure be interested in which generates more sales, illicitely sold teacher’s editions, or homeschoolers selling to other homeschoolers. I’ll bet it’s the latter. EBay needs to recognize this or else homeschoolers will just set up shop on Yahoo, much like Catholic Swap, and leave eBay out altogether!
