This book finally answers the big question for me; why did Scott Peterson murder his wife Laci? The author, a forensic psychiatrist starts his story 40 years prior with the murder of Scott’s maternal grandfather and how that single event shaped the future of his mother and of Scott himself. The monster that Scott Peterson became was made, not born.

The author also discusses how the divorce of Laci’s parents, and the way this young girl learned to cope with that may have made her unable to spot the warning signs that her husband wasn’t normal and how many of the normal happy things of marriage, like a house and new baby, were the triggers that lead to the end of her life.

I totally believe that generations before us helped to shape our current reality. Perhaps sometime in the future I will blog on how my maternal side taught me to “whip around the other side with full force,” and how I hope I have eventually mellowed with age!

Anyway, this is a fascinating read. I picked it up Thursday and by mid Friday I was done! A real page turner. If you enjoy psychological books, you’ll appreciate this one.
