Thoughts on the Catholic Blog Awards

Spread the love

I mentioned that the Catholic Blog Awards are up and you can look at all of the finalists and make your selections here. Overall, I think we can be proud of the professional writers and religious who work so hard on their blogs as a sideline, to educate and inspire folks about our Catholic faith and what’s going on in the Catholic world. It’s hard to decide who to vote for, (although I stick my assertion that the most bizarre vote has to go here, (but if you’ve read a blog posting that is more bizarre than that, I’d like to read it!!)

If I had more time, energy and talent though, I think I would like to develop a blog awards for the lay, amateur blogger. Something like Homespun Bloggers crossed with Blogs of Beauty. A Catholic Awards with more interesting and diverse categories like Contemporary Design, and Classic Design, Best Variety, Best Journal Blog. The Catholic Blog Awards does have an award for Best Blog by a Man and a Woman, but how about the Best Father’s Blog, Best Mother’s Blog, Best Family Blog, Best Homemaking, Best Frugality (or tithing), Best blog with a liturgical theme etc. I loved the category in the Blogs of Beauty, “Best Blogger you’d like to meet for a Mocha” category. The Share the Love Awards has something similar with as well as categories for Best Discussion, and how about Best Commenters!!

Maybe just blogging about this will plant a seed somewhere to broaden the opportunities for recognizing the wide array of Catholic Blogs in the parish!

Until then though, let’s be loud and proud and support the Catholic Blog Awards in progress!
