Article from the Sacramento Bee about the firing of the Planned Parenthood volunteer, Marie Bain, from her job at Loretto, a Catholic School in Sacramento.

But the message in Weigand’s letter is clear: “I am directing you, under the provisions of Code of Canon Law … to dismiss Ms. Bain with all deliberate speed.” The letter also states the termination should be handled with “dignity, sensitivity and appropriate decorum.”

Dom Puglisi, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Sacramento, said parents have a right to expect their students will be taught in accordance with Catholic principles. Allowing teachers to publicly display contrary beliefs sends the wrong message, he said.

“It sounds like we play hardball, but they know up front, whether they are Catholic or non-Catholic, that these are Catholic schools and we go by the teachings of the church and Rome,” said Puglisi.
