The difference between the Schiavo and Torres cases is a huge one between allowing someone to die naturally by “pulling the plug” on machines that are artificially keeping them alive, and directly causing death by denying them the basic necessities of life, such as food and water. This is a critical distinction, and one that must be at the forefront of any future ethical debates about the end of human life.
