Getting something off my chest

Spread the love

I don’t know if this is going to start a trend, but apparently a blogger has sent at least one person over here to challenge and chastise me on my support of the church’s teaching against elective induction for fetuses with anomalies incompatible with life. OK fine. I support the church’s teaching on the topic unequivocally. I believe it is a morally wrong choice, I believe that women are being frightened by their physicians and caregivers to induce.

That doesn’t make me uncompassionate or “unloving.” The scriptures phrase it this way: Ephesians 4: And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers,
12
to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, 5 for building up the body of Christ,
13
until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, 6 to the extent of the full stature of Christ,
14
so that we may no longer be infants, tossed by waves and swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery, from their cunning in the interests of deceitful scheming.
15
Rather, living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into him who is the head, Christ,

Our jobs as Christians are to speak the truth, and sometimes that’s dangerous. Sometimes it makes people hate us. Sometimes not, but it’s a risk everytime you stand up for the truth.

Speaking the truth IS compassionate. It is not compassionate, in my opinion to let someone blindly err simply because it’s the easier to just let them go. It certainly would have been easier for me.

It’s a terrible thing to lose a child during pregnancy. Even worse to be making these life or death decisions. I’m glad to present the church’s teaching as best I can on the topic, share my experiences and what I’ve seen others go through, to cry with you and pray for you. But support for ELECTIVE induction just isn’t going to happen here. That’s not uncompassionate or unloving – it’s honest.
