Spread the love

The death of the pope and his funeral was the focus of our family last week. Pete and I watched the coverage as much as we could. I really hate that Dishnetwork only carries CNN, but I was able to watch some of the coverage on EWTN.

I did see Christiane Amanpour from CNN talking to Cardinal Keeler. She seemed so intent on getting him to say that he was going to look for a papal candidate willing to change the church on birth control, abortion, women priests etc .etc. Instead Cardinal Keeler said something to the effect of looking for a candidate who would bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world in a persuasive way! Ms. Amanpour looked stunned – Oh yea, Jesus Christ, spreading the gospel… what a concept!

The funeral on Friday was beautiful, touching, uplifting. I wonder how many souls converted because of that beautiful ceremony. I particularly loved the Eastern Rite leaders giving their blessing in chant near the end of the ceremony – very beautiful. And then the paul bearers carried Pope John Paul the Great up the stairs, turned the coffin around for one more look at the square, and it was over. A wonderful tribute to a man who truly touched and changed the world.

Personally, life just goes on. I saw the OB who will be doing my C-section. I had sort of forgotten what the OB treadmill was like since I have seen mostly nurse midwives and/or doctors with a more holistic approach during my other pregnancies. But I had to remind myself that I am seeing this doctor for his surgical skill and not for any of the other amenities. He remembered me and was very pleasant however and I feel better having a date on the calendar and having all the insurances and key players in place now for this little one’s birth.

Now I have to start planning the baptism!

Soccer season started with a bang and I started driving kids to practices all over the place. I remind myself that next season, I’ll be doing this with a little one in a car seat!! I hope this baby is one of the contented, easily pacified kind.

My computer is now updated to do my work over the internet which is exciting. I do enjoy learning new technologies and skills and that is very exciting. I hope to finally get started next week.

On a more concerning note, my mom did start some treatment for her cancer this week. The drug she is on is more to promote bone health and prevent bone metastasis. The side effects are supposed to be very mild. However, yesterday while I was at the hairdressers getting my hair cut, my mother called the shop to tell me she was feeling terrible! Now that’s really distressing to get a phone call like that away from home at the beauty parlor! It turns out that some aspirin and lots of water did the trick and later that afternoon she felt much better and even grilled herself a sandwich. I do think though that this is probably the tip of the iceberg of what we are probably about to go through.

Spring is here and this afternoon I hope to get onto the laundry in a major way! Always a challenging part of running the domestic church!
