Relics

Interesting discussion on relics here,and here.

Relics don’t creep me out too much, in fact there’s something comforting about them. While I don’t have any 1st degree relics I do have some 3rd degree relics. When my baby was stillborn a friend suggested that I touch my rosary to the baby, who was sinless and therefore a saint of sorts. I did that and I keep that rosary with me all the time in my purse as a holy relic of sorts.

I sort of think, in a way, using a holy body like that in a spiritual way is very analogous to organ donations in a medical way – and that doesn’t seem to gross people out too much, in fact it seems very practical. I guess that is how I have come to view relics – a tangible, physical use for a saint’s body that helps us in our spirituality and journey to holiness.
