Happy New Year Dear Readers! Hope your New Year celebrations were happy and healthy!

We started our New Year’s Eve with a routine trip to the doctor to make sure my pregnancy was progressing satisfactorily. These routine OB appointments are so – invasive! They want you to pee in a cup, and then they want to do stuff with it… ew! They weigh you, and I couldn’t even get out of that on account of the holidays. Nope, step on the scale and view all of your transgressions! Blood pressure was a little high for me at 130/70 something. But I was a little stressed about getting weighed AND worried about finding fetal heart tones.

Then you have to expose your abdomen while you get poked and prodded. But I put up with all of that because the pay off is getting to hear the baby’s heart beat. And as you can imagine, for a mom who has miscarried at 23 weeks, hearing that heartbeat is just everything to me… everything. Dr. L had a little trouble finding it. At 18 weeks the baby is still kind of small, still kind of squirmy with lots of wiggle room in my abdomen. And as she’s trying I’m laying there with my ears straining, wishing she would quit asking me about my Christmas, and making funeral arrangements in my head. But Dr. L. finally pinned him down and got a good heartbeat at 142 beats per minute. Mr. Pete squeezed my leg and said, “You can stop worrying now!” He knows me too well.

The rest of the day was uneventful. We are enjoying the Sci Fi Twilight Zone Marathon. For my two oldest ones this is a treat because they have seen some of the episodes before and even have favorites! The younger ones are enjoying them too, in fact Gabe woke up this morning and put on the Sci Fi Channel instead of the Rose Parade!

Last night we just ate tacos, watched Independence Day (which was new to me, Noah and Izzy) and then went to bed. An uneventful, cozy, family way to to spend New Years!
