Well Alleluia!! This was the last killer soccer weekend!!! Gabe’s team didn’t win a single game this season, so they had their party and trophies today and he’s done for the season. No more practice, no more games. (Mom jumping up and down with glee!!!) Sam has playoffs and then hopefully championships next week. Calvin will be reffing CYO championships and my little ones have one more week. But the problem was always with Gabe and Sam’s games being so close together and with Mr. Pete coaching the little kids, it was mostly me trying to decipher the soccer map and getting kids hither and yon!! And now that part is over YIPPPEEEE!!!!!
On the “What was I thinking” front, I lead my first Generations of Faith session today for families – Kindergarten through adult. I didn’t volunteer. I was asked. Apparently my Nancy Regan card with the slogan “Just Say No” finally fell off of the telephone stand because when my DRE asked me, I said YES!!
OK, I felt guilty. I’m not teaching PSR this year because I felt that the lesson plans for PSR took too much time away from my family and our homeschool. It seemed that the few sessons of GOF wouldn’t be so bad to do. Yet I put in many hours this week getting ready and then of course I had the inevitible stomach ache that comes with making a presentation the next day, as well as a bad dream. (I dreamed people kept interrupting me to get more food out of the cafeteria and that I went way way over time!!)
Still, once I got going it wasn’t bad. I’m a natural story teller and once I got going I didn’t feel nervous or nauseous! Oh there was one kid that raised his hand and asked “When is this over?” I dunno… I’ve been a mom of boys for too long I guess. I told him with a completely straight face, “Oh, I’m just feeling warmed up, in fact I just got my second wind. Probably a few more hours OK?” I love being sarcastic with little kids – they’re never quite sure what to do with it.
Most of the people never said a word. I swear I could have done a strip tease and they would have sat there politely with a smile and their hands folded. One gentleman had lots of questions and comments and I had fun talking with him after about our faith experiences. Another lady looked like almost everything coming out of my mouth was completely new to her!! For example, she had never seen this classic Father Lovasik Book of Saints. She spent a long time looking at the pictures. I’m not sure what she thought. She also had never heard of the incorruptible saints and when I told her St. Bernadette was laying on her bed in Lourdes, she had such a peculiar expresssion! Then we kind of joked around the rest of the session about her her running home to check it out on the internet.
Overall, I had a good time. I think they had a good time too but I won’t know for sure until I read the evaluations. Ugh… nothing like getting ripped a new one for your volunteer work…
Did I mention I love my teenager. Yea, he’s a big dope sometime, but he’s getting to be fun to talk to. And he’s so opinionated… I don’t know where he gets it?!
Oh, and my HCG level drawn on Friday is high!! So my little baby appears to be doing well and since I’ve started my progesterone, my mind is resting a bit easier too.
