Spread the love

My friend Eileen, from my AOL message board days, is rightly upset about the Dean Hudson shenanigans.

I will admit that my heart sank when the story broke as well. Not an unfamiliar feeling these days. I felt a similar sensation when I read about the McFarland divorce and throughout the sex abuse scandal. To be an orthodox, practicing Catholic these days means having a thick skin and a stiff upper lip because, (to quote the novel I just finished reading) you ain’t got nothing coming!

As a woman I wonder why so many men think with that small organ between their legs instead of the much more intricate and well developed one between their ears! Is it the thrill of getting caught? or is a live-for-the-moment kind of thing? My husband thinks its because these guys aren’t busy enough. This from the guy who owns his own business, takes up side jobs, coaches soccer and teaches PSR to 6th graders as well as being a dad to his 5 youngsters and a loving friend and spouse to me. With that much on his plate he obviously doesn’t have the time or energy to pursue illicit sexual adventures. Maybe Mr. Pete is right – there’s no such thing as a vacuum, something will come up (excuse the pun) to fill the void.

As a Catholic though I’m certainly down with this repent-and-move-on thing, providing of course that one TRULY repents and makes some life changes to go with it. That certainly is what Father Corapi has done with his life. He’s very up front with it to. His life story on tape is amazing and well worth the listen. And now he is a respected priest and national Catholic speaker.

So maybe that’s what Eileen is really mad about. That we had to learn about Mr. Hudson’s day of sin from the NCR of all places! And she’s right, it would have been so much better to hear it from him on an ongoing basis – then this wouldn’t have happened when (again as this novel would put it) the shit jumps off.

A couple of bloggers seem to be taking that lead. Nathan and Franklin have given full disclosures on their blogs. It’s hard not to respect to gentleman who lay it on the line about themselves and then continue to show you how they grow in Christ. Maybe our future Catholic leaders need to take a clue from these two humble bloggers as well as Father Corapi.
