What’s up with My Domestic Church

Spread the love

Gabe’s first communion day is Sunday. Two days away. That’s it!!!Tomorrow is soccer Saturday again. Get the picture. That tingly feeling in my scalp is caused the stimulation of my hair follicles as they continue to turn from a nice healthy brown color to a tremulous shade of gray.

On a positive note, I did get Gabe’s vest done and bought his pants and shirt. He will look spiffy! I am taking him down to WalMart today to get a picture of him looking pious and holy in his First Communion outfit. As you can see from the Buzznet photos Gabe is good at looking silly, goofy, and slightly amused – but never serious and pious.

Now, Gabe is holy. He has an innate sense of holiness about him. He has a playful quality in his holiness, almost I think like Thomas Aquinas must have had, or St. John Bosco. He just isn’t the serious, “I’m suffering so terribly” kind of holy. He is more the “wow, life is great and I’m glad to be living it!” type of holy.

These past few weeks he has started reading bedtime stories to his little sister and brother. Gabe is only in the 2nd grade so sometimes he changes the words. Heck sometimes he changes the story!! but they really have enjoyed listening to him. Then as I sit in my office typing away I can hear Gabe lead them in prayer. They get the “Now I lay me down” part OK. They also do a 20 minute “God bless…” session that covers a good 99/100 of the world’s population. Gabe also tries to lead them in the Act of Contrition because he still struggles with that from memory. I think last night it started out with “Oh My God I am heartily sorry” and somewhere in the middle had “liberty and justice for all.” Then they all marched out to kiss me good night and I inspected their breath to see if they had brushed. (two of them had).

So today I finish cleaning the house, folding clothes, cooking for 33 and trying to enjoy the whole thing – to drink it in! and I am!!
