Spread the love

Father Jim gives us a view into his life as a priest over on Dappled Things.

This lay woman has a few suggestions!!

1. I’ll bet there are folks in your parish who would LOVE to cook for you! Why are you fixing your own meals? At my parish they had a sign up and ladies (and a couple of gentleman) who like to cook fix meals once a month and bring it to the rectory! The priests gave us a few guidelines (no red meat, no squash! and we like it spicy) and it was relatively simple to work around those guidelines. You just need one lady to coordinate it all but that is really pretty minimal and if she can do it on the computer- piece of cake!

2. Why are you doing your own wedding rehearsals? At my parish the priest just shows up at the beginning of the rehearsal to do the paper work, say a blessing and then they scram!! The liturgical wedding coordinators (of which I am one)run the rehearsals. We also show up the next day to make things run smoothly. Might be something to look into.

As for the rest of it – I can really see my second son getting into a lifestyle like that.

I keep telling him, “Sam, if you become a priest I’ll be your secretary and work cheap.”

Of course he tells me, “Ma, you’ll be real old then and maybe not so fast any more.” talk about being humbled…
